MLK Lay Clergy Update :: Housing

The MLK Lay Clergy group met on April 16, with 12 member representing eight churches present. Sub committees reported on three different areas of housing. The Education and Awareness Committee is in the initial stages of developing a plan to enlighten congregations on the housing crisis in Indianapolis.

A Tenants Rights Committee is developing a plan that will focus on renter’s rights and evictions.

The Transitional Housing group is currently investigating two avenues:

  • to develop partnerships with landlords to clean up and prepare houses for tenants and maintain property exteriors upon occupation

  • to develop a program transitioning tenants from transitional housing to home ownership

Work will continue, with the group exploring a meeting plan now that there are more new members.
