Become a Poll Worker on Election Day

With the general election happening on November 5, Marion County is looking for citizen poll workers. Nationally, over one million poll workers are needed, and America is facing a nationwide poll worker shortage. You can help by registering to be a worker for the 2024 election.  

 

WHAT DO POLL WORKERS DO?

There are many kinds of jobs for poll workers to do, including helping voters check in, managing voter lines, troubleshooting equipment, and providing directions and assistance. Poll workers may also assist with various office duties.

ELECTION DAY HOURS AND COMPENSATION

5 a.m. - 7 p.m. or later

$80 to $200 for full day. $40 for half day. $20 for training. $50 for worker who picks-up and drops-off election supplies. Part-time shifts available!

REQUIREMENTS

Ages 16-years-old + who are U.S. citizens and Marion County residents (exception: high school students)

Training - You must attend a training session. In-person training typically lasts 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on position. Some returning workers may be eligible for online training. All new workers must complete training in-person.

Other jobs besides Poll Worker:

INSPECTORS - The Inspector is the leader of a Vote Center on Election Day. Responsibilities include ensuring the polling location opens and closes on time, issuing challenges, overseeing the accounting of ballots, and assisting the clerks in their duties.

CLERKS - Clerks greet voters, check voter IDs, operate the electronic pollbooks, issue challenges, assist voters with disabilities, and aid with the accounting of ballots.

 STUDENT POLL WORKER PROGRAM - Indiana law permits eligible high school students to serve as Clerks on Election Day. As a student poll worker, you must be at least 16 years old, receive permission from a parent/guardian and your school, and have a 3.0 GPA (or equivalent).
