Last updated: August 16, 2026
The flooding affecting Indianapolis and communities throughout Indiana has displaced families, damaged homes and businesses and left neighborhoods facing an enormous cleanup and recovery effort.
As people of St. Paul’s, we believe that sharing Christ’s love means showing up for our neighbors — especially when they need us most.
This page is a living list of ways to give, serve, donate needed items and find help. Needs and volunteer opportunities are changing quickly, so please check back often.
PLEASE NOTE: Flood recovery work can be dangerous. Do not enter flooded or evacuated areas on your own or simply show up at a disaster site. Work through an established organization and receive an assignment before arriving. Indiana emergency-management officials specifically recommend this approach.
URGENT UPDATE — AUGUST 16
Water and easy-to-handle snacks are currently needed in Rocky Ripple. Washington Township's collection center is accepting specific household and personal-care items. Organized cleanup opportunities will expand as floodwaters recede. See details below.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Give Money
Financial gifts are often the fastest and most flexible way to help. Established relief organizations can purchase exactly what is needed, when it is needed, and can provide assistance directly to survivors.
Donate Supplies
Some local shelters and community collection centers are currently accepting specific supplies. Please do not assume that a shelter or relief organization can accept donations. Check the current list below before loading your car.
Volunteer
Cleanup and recovery will continue long after the water recedes. Sign up with an established organization so you can be matched with safe, appropriate work.
Need Help?
If you or someone you know has been affected by the flooding, resources are available for shelter, food, emergency assistance, recovery and referrals.
GIVE MONEY
St. Luke's UMC
St. Luke’s United Methodist Church is collecting funds for disaster relief, purchasing items for families in need. Please use the following link to donate, noting “disaster relief" as the reason for your payment:
DONATE SUPPLIES
The most useful donation is the one a relief organization has specifically requested.
Rocky Ripple
Rocky Ripple has been among the Indianapolis communities hardest hit by the White River flooding. Current reports indicate residents and volunteers are working on immediate flood response and beginning the transition toward cleanup.
Current needs being reported locally include:
Volunteers for sandbag and flood-response work when authorities permit
Drinking water
Easy-to-handle snacks
Straw for cleanup/ground recovery
Trash bags
Work gloves
Cleaning supplies
Pumps and water-removal equipment
Connections to hardware stores and mitigation companies
Skilled volunteers for later cleanup and rebuilding
A current community update from Sunday, August 16, reports an ongoing need for hands, water and snacks and asks businesses with access to hardware or mitigation resources to help.
For official community information, monitor the Town of Rocky Ripple emergency updates.
Washington Township / North Central Indianapolis
Washington Township Adult Center
8401 Westfield Blvd., Indianapolis, IN 46240
A Red Cross-staffed shelter is operating at the Washington Township Services Center. The location is also serving as a community donation and distribution point.
Community reports indicate that requested supplies include:
Bottled water
Individually packaged snacks
Personal hygiene products
Diapers
Baby wipes
Towels
New underwear and socks
Toilet paper
Cleaning supplies
Trash bags
Cleaning gloves
Cleaning sprays
Phone chargers, particularly wall charging blocks
Nonperishable food
Children's clothing and toys/games
Other essential household items
A current community update also reports that donations are being sorted for distribution through school-based “need closets,” helping families access supplies through their children's schools.
Important: The Red Cross does not generally accept unsolicited physical donations at shelters. The Washington Township collection operation at this location is separately accepting community donations. If you are bringing physical supplies, confirm that someone is available to receive them.
Where to go: Community reports indicate the donation/shelter operation is at the former Northview Middle School/Services Center, with Door 20 used for the collection operation. Please follow on-site signs and instructions.
